CSI at NAB
Colorist Society International will host an interactive panel discussion on color management and HDR workflows at NAB 2019 in Las Vegas. CSI president Kevin Shaw and board member Hugh Heinsohn will moderate the event, part of NAB’s new Birds of a Feather program. It’s slated for Monday, April 8th at 3:30 pm in room N243 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The advent of HDR offers exciting possibilities for more dynamic imagery, but also poses challenges for managing color. The proper color workflow is essential to ensure that creative intent is maintained as projects proceed through production, post and, ultimately, delivery to consumers across diverse media. A panel of experts will discuss best practices for color management and workflows on the set, during visual effects and animation, and in the color grading suite. It’s an opportunity for colorists, finishing editors and others involved in post-production (as well as cinematographers, directors and producers) to gain insight into a changes that are likely to dominate the industry for years to come.
Joining Shaw and Heinsohn as panelists will be Ayumi Ashley, Lead Colorist, Ntropic; Robbie Carmen, Lead Colorist and owner, DC Color; Andrea Chlebak, Senior Colorist, Deluxe (Encore Hollywood and EFILM); Alexis Van Hurkman , editor, colorist and author; and Fernando Medellin C.A.M. / C.S.I., Senior Colorist, Óxido. Technicolor's Josh Pines has just confirmed that he will also be one of the panelists featured in this this session.
Titled "What Are the Best Ways to Manage Color for HDR and Multiple Deliverables?", the event is free to NAB attendees. Complimentary beer and wine will be served afterwards starting at 4:30 pm.
CSI will also be among the sponsors of NAB’s 7th Annual Colorist Mixer, scheduled for Sunday, April 7th at 7:00 pm at Virgil's BBQ on the Linq Promenade. The popular event is an opportunity to meet and make friends, and chat with representatives of companies who make the tools and software used by colorists every day. It also features a raffle with lots of cool prizes. The event is sold out but you can join the waitlist here.
